History of the department

The intensive development of the electronic industry in Ukraine, in particular in the city of Chernivtsi, required the training of highly qualified specialists in the radio-electronic field. Therefore, in 1986 at the Physics Faculty of Chernivtsi State University named after Yury Fedkovich, the first recruitment of students in the specialty "Radio engineering" and "Design and production technology of radio electronic equipment" was carried out. The provision of the educational process was carried out by the radioelectronics section of the physics faculty, based on which the department of radioelectronic equipment was opened in 1987. A talented specialist Assoc. was appointed acting head of the department. O.R. Shelyag

In connection with the start of the construction of a radio engineering plant in Chernivtsi, a radio engineering department was opened at the Faculty of Physics, which was headed by the deputy dean Assoc. Prof. V.V. Brailovsky. Enrollment for the first year of full-time study was 50 students for each specialty. To ensure the educational process, work was intensively carried out on the formation of the teaching staff of the department and the strengthening of its material and technical base, both at the expense of the university and with the support of enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Chernivtsi ("Graviton", "Kvarts", Radio Engineering Plant ). Educational and methodological support was provided with the assistance of Lviv Polytechnic Institute, Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics, and Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The educational process at the department was provided by the staff of V.V. Aleksandrov, E.G. Bzovii, P.A. Kotsyumaha, Y.F. Redko, V.V. Chervinska, A.A. Moysiuk, Ya.V. Patsarnyuk, A.E. Zelyk, P.M. Gorley, M.Ya. Furrier.

Opening of the Department of Radio Engineering

Taking into account the needs of Chernivtsi enterprises for radio engineering specialists, according to the decision of the rectorate, on October 1, 1989, the Department of Radio Engineering was established at Chernivtsi State University. The department was headed by L.F. Candidate of Technical Sciences, director of the Ruta OKB and the Graviton VO. Politansky Teachers V.V. worked at the department. Brailovskyi, P.M. Gorley, O.P. Zhuk, O.G. Khandozhko, P.P. Vatamanyuk, A.P. Fedorenko, G.I. Vorobets, A.E. Zelyk, T.O. Tsaryk Teachers from other universities were invited to teach special subjects.

In 1999, at the request of the university and with the support of the members of the Methodological Commission of the "Radio Engineering" specialty of the MES of Ukraine, the "Radio Engineering" specialty was supplemented with specialization 7.090701 "Information Protection Systems" (Order of the MES of Ukraine dated 31.08.99, No. 1/9333).

Since 2000, the department has been intensively working on the creation of a material, technical and methodical base for the training of specialists in a new specialty, the introduction of a new specialization. The created potential of the department made it possible to open a new specialty "Protection of information with limited access and automation of its processing" in 2002.

Since 2003, Chernivtsi National University has started accepting applicants for studies in specialty 7.090701 "Technical information protection systems". In this connection, the department received an expanded name - the department of radio engineering and information security.

The formation of the student contingent was carried out both at the expense of secondary school graduates and technical college graduates. A significant number of graduates of the Chernivtsi Polytechnic School who studied at the department have successfully defended their candidate theses and are working at the department (P.M. Shpatar, G.I. Lastivka, A.D. Veryga, V.B. Rusyn).

Modernity and the department

The Department of Radio Engineering and Information Security conducts the training of "Bachelor's" and "Master's" specialists in the specialties of "Telecommunications and Radio Engineering" and "Cyber Security". The department successfully operates postgraduate courses in the following specialties: 171 - "Solid-state electronics", 172 - "Telecommunications and radio engineering".

Employees of the department work on the employment of graduates according to the received specialties. Employment is facilitated by internships based on enterprises and organizations of the city and region, as well as the introduction of specialized disciplines into the variable part of curricula, which allow students to more thoroughly master the chosen profession, taking into account the specifics of the activities and needs of specific enterprises, organizations and scientific institutions.

The scientific work carried out by the employees of the department is carried out in the following directions: "Practical application of nonlinear dynamic systems in information communications" (head, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. R.L. Politanskyi) and "Hardware and software means of nuclear quadrupole resonance signal detection and processing their informational reflections" (head of Doctor of Science, Prof. A.P. Samila).

For radio amateurs, the department operates the UR4YWW collective radio station of ChNU, where students also have the opportunity to take part in international and all-Ukrainian competitions in radio communication on short and ultra-short waves and win prizes. The manager of the radio station is V.O. Zhuk. under whose leadership the radio station's team won championships at the world and European championships.

Students are actively engaged in scientific work under the guidance of teachers of the department and take part in competitions of scientific works and Olympiads in the following areas: "Cyber security", "Informatics and cybernetics", "Radio engineering", "Telecommunication systems and networks", "Information communication networks", "Metrology and information-measuring technology", "Engineering of embedded systems".

In particular, in the anniversary year of 2019, students of the department won twelve prizes (M.V. Apostoliuk, V.V. Vlasenko, Yu.V. Herman, I.A. Zhadan, B.S. Nichiy, O.V. Moysyuk, V .O. Tkach, MM Hobzei).
